Our On-line Events Calendar

PCOTW has implemented an on-line, multi-view, events calendar in an effort to improve our communications and outreach to the congregation and the greater community. What you will see is our Public Calendar, providing a current list of church and community events scheduled at Presbyterian Church of the Way. The details for each event may be found by hovering the mouse pointer over an entry. Details include a description, date, time and room location, as applicable.

What is multi-view?

The user is automatically presented with the current month's events. However, the user may select to view the events for just the current day, the current week, or the year. The viewing selection is made via the My Calendar menu item. In addition, the user may select any previous or future month, week, or year for display via the menu bar.

How does this help?

The events calendar allows the office to efficiently schedule current and future events while avoiding facility conflicts due to classroom or scheduled time and duration. It also provides our members with advanced notice whether a particular room is available for an ad-hoc meeting. Now one doesn't need to come to the church office to see what's on the calendar hanging on the wall.

New Second Service:  Iona Community Worship

September 2008

Our Scottish Heritage—with a Twist

As Presbyterians, we trace our roots back to the Reformation of the 16th century, in particular to the nation of Scotland. Many of the first settlers in the New World came from this small nation, bringing with them a style of worship that continues to shape our worship services to this day.

But worship in Scotland has also continued to evolve. Beginning in 1938, the Iona Community was founded on the tiny Hebridean island of Iona, located off the west coast of Scotland, to rebuild the ruins of the first Christian settlement in Northern Scotland, a monastic settlement begun in AD 563. The Community's restoration work on Iona Abbey, a medieval Benedictine foundation, was completed in 1965.

Worship lies at the heart of all the Community's life and concerns. The daily life on Iona begins and ends with worship. Over the years, a style of worship has grown up, appropriate for the place and the people who come. It is direct and to the point; it is relevant and challenging, reflecting the Community's engaged spirituality and its concern to 'find new ways to touch the hearts of all'. You do not need to be a churchgoer to feel at home in a Iona Community service. It is a worship service for everyone.

Beginning on Sunday, September 14th, our 11:00 a.m. service will feature this refreshing liturgy for a period of six weeks, through Sunday, October 19th. So what can you expect? At the center of Iona Community worship is a heightened sense of God's presence in our natural surroundings and God's call to us to care for all of Creation. There is an emphasis on personal wholeness, with a healing service being a highlight of the worship series. There is also a call to welcome the outsider, and to work for peace and justice for all people.

Finally, there is the music of the Iona Community. It is typically sung a capella – without accompaniment – and is memorable. Led by Russ Carlson, our music director, and Spirit Sounds, you can expect to quickly learn songs that will speak to both your heart and mind.

Throughout this six-week period, there will be an opportunity for you to provide feedback on this fresh take on worship. With you, we are always seeking to honor our past while remaining open to the leading of the Holy Spirit in worship. Come join us—and let your voice be heard!

Our New Look - August 2008

What happened to the PCOTW site?

To make a long story short, it was time. Ten years ago the PCOTW web site was created to provide an Internet presence for the church. While that design served PCOTW well during its lifespan, PCOTW is always working to improve and enhance its presence and outreach. We simply want to make the PCOTW web site experience better for our members and the community

PCOTW Goals and Objectives

Our strategy is to make this our primary outreach instrument to the Shoreview Community and beyond. Over time, we expect to expand its content to reflect our faith and mission to that community.

Is everything still there?

Yes, the content has been expanded while maintaing all of the content you've come to expect. We’ve moved a few things around, but for the most part, all of the information you’re used to finding and using is still there. We’ve simply put a new, consistent look on the structure which allows us to continue to expand the site without confusing our viewers.

Browser Compatibility?

The new PCOTW web site is designed for an 800x600 pixel (SVGA) display. It requires a browser that supports Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) version 2.1 and eXtensible Hyper-Text Markup Language (XHTML) version 1.0. The site uses z-index positioned (z-axis layered) elements, for the dynamic menu and the virtual lightbox, which are documented issues with Internet Explorer 6. The site is compatible with Internet Explorer version 7.
