2008 Habitat
for Humanity and Holy Hammers Project

SITE HOST GUIDELINES
Site Host Duties: 8:15 am to 4:30 pm - 887 Randolph Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55102
- Sign in workers on official Habitat forms: Includes the daily sign in log and a waiver. All workers
must sign a waiver once a year, and the site host should make sure it’s filed alphabetically in the
notebook. Help with name tags (masking tape and markers should be onsite). The Habitat site supervisor
or the church project manager should introduce you to the group, or you should introduce yourself to
the group at the morning meeting. May need to point out where the hand washing/water station and
trash/recycling bins are located. Site Host may want to give an opening day prayer when everyone is
gathered.
- Make morning coffee (about 30 cups for 10:00 break). If it is a hot day, make 20 cups, and unplug
pot when empty. Coffee doesn’t have to be ready when people arrive at 8:30 a.m. However, the site
host may choose to bring a thermos of hot coffee for those people who want some coffee when they
arrive (especially when the weather is cold).
- Provide the morning snack (about 10:00 a.m.). Suggestions for the morning snack are: donuts,
bagels, muffins, or sweet rolls—about 2 dozen. Contact Judy Murakami for reimbursement.
- Bring paper cups, regular coffee, cream and sugar, napkins for snacks, 3-4 (33 gallon) garbage
bags for trash and recycling. The pot should be there. May use from the church supplies and can
return these supplies to church at the end. Water and electricity are available.
- Help coordinate and set up lunch service (food should arrive about 11:45-12:15).
- If a minister is available, ask him/her to say grace before lunch or give a short prayer at the
beginning of the day. Otherwise, be prepared to say the grace.
- Serve afternoon snack (about 2:00 p.m.) that will be provided by other food donors.
- Clean up coffee pot and rinse out. Leave pot and measuring cup onsite for next group. Tell Project
Manager or Habitat Site Supervisor where you are putting it.
- Remove garbage and recycling bags at end of day. Habitat is charged extra for our trash, so try
to take it or ask some of the workers to dispose of the bags and the recycling items.
- Provide assistance to volunteers needing directions, etc. May also help with construction tasks or
managing the tool crib, if desired. Help keep watch over our materials and possessions in the area.
- PHOTOS: Each week one or two of the site hosts should take photos of workers and the site (or ask
someone to take these photos). These can be pictures of people working or eating. Show a variety of
people and activities. Try to show faces. Take at least one photo showing the whole house from the
front street and from the back alley to show the progress. These will be used to make our project
albums that are shared with each church, the family, and the Habitat office. Give the developed
pictures (or undeveloped roll of film) to your church’s Holy Hammers steering committee person as
soon as possible so we can post them on our website – or by July 17th. Digital photos are preferred,
if possible. Be sure to tell what date the pictures were taken.
- Special note on coffee: No filter is needed. A plastic measuring cup should be included or use
a styrofoam cup (usually 7 oz. size). If you make less, guesstimate a smaller amount of grounds.
