Our Stained Glass Windows

Presbyterian Church of the Way is fortunate to have a member who is both an artist and who enjoys expressing her faith through art, especially the stained glass windows which enhance our narthex and sanctuary. Whether you come through our main entrance on the east side of the church, or you enter on the west, you are immediately presented with stained glass art (windows) that depicts special symbols of faith. The stained glass art becomes the centerpiece in the church sanctuary, where the Cross of Christ is illuminated.

We present, below, images of the stained glass windows found throughout our facility. Due to image size limitations, it is difficult to convey the impact and physical size of the actual windows. We encourage all community members to personally view these windows and to reflect on their symbolism and expressions of faith.

"A good work of art allows the viewers to bring their own experience of life forward and the artist hopes you will find expression in the window that touches your own soul,"   Marie Hammond, Artist and PCOTW member.

The Presbyterian Church Seal Window

The Presbyterian Church Seal window is framed on one side of the main entrance to our church.

The seal of the Presbyterian Church is a symbolic statement of the church's heritage, identity, and mission in contemporary form. Its power depends on both its simplicity and complexity, as well as its traditional and enduring qualities.

The basic symbols in the seal are the cross, Scripture, the dove, and flames. The dominant structural and theological element in the design is the cross — the universal and most ecumenical symbol of the Christian church. The cross represents the incarnate love of God in Jesus Christ and his passion and resurrection. Because of its association with Presbyterian history, the Celtic cross is the model for this contemporary rendering of the ancient symbol.

Alpha and Omega

The Alpha and Omega Window

The Alpha and Omega window is framed on the other side of the main entrance to our church. We believe in the Sovereignty of God.

What do we mean by the sovereignty of God? We claim that this theological expression is central to the Reformed tradition.

The sovereignty of God refers to the supremacy and primacy of God—God is above all, in all, and through all. God is the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end. It is God who acts, and with gratitude we respond in worship, education, and service to the glory of God.

The Cross of Christ

The Cross of Christ Window

The constant and central piece of the sanctuary window is the cross. The cross is surrounded by and immersed in a more complex setting which depicts the mighty sweep of the universe. The cross stands strong in the midst of all the diversity and complexities that make up our lives.

The Cross of Christ touches all elements of life and will remain steadfast in an ever changing world.

The Creation Window

The Creation Window

The Creation Window, in memory of Jack Allison, is located at the west end of the narthex. This window reflects the hymn,"This is my Father's World." Read the words of this hymn and many of the images can be found in the window: The morning light, The lilies white, The rocks and trees, The skies, stars and seas.
