Living Water in GhanaIn just one year three wells have been constructed. Already, the thirst of 8,000 people is being quenched by safe, clean water. Dr. Bill Larson is the driving force who attracted donors and provided quality control. Throughout his distinguished career, Bill has insisted that “water is the centerpiece of the life support cycle,” and remains the key to family and communal existence. The townspeople have received tools and training; the villages have committed ongoing maintenance and security; enthusiasm for the project remains high. By the same formula as last year, three additional wells may be feasible in 2006, and partnership with other churches is being explored to broaden the project in the future. The Ghana story is a parable of mission possibility. Church members in America knew from their childhood a critical need in their native Ghana. They proposed a simple project to a mission commission constituted by a small church in Minnesota. God acted and members responded. On both sides of an ocean, people glimpsed the larger intention of the effort. It’s a tiny project, a literal drop in the bucket, but a church in the U. S. no longer inquires “When did we see you thirsty?” We’re focused now on a few isolated towns in Ghana, their real need, and the call of Christ. For more information and pictures click here. |
