About Deacons

Compassionate Ministry

The word 'deacon' is derived from the Greek verb diakonein, meaning 'to serve'. The first Deacons were called upon to wait on tables, a humble task; yet for the sacred responsibility within the framework of the church, they elected persons 'of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom' (Acts 6:3). At PCOTW, our board of 27 Deacons serves the compassionate ministries of our congregation.

Deacons serve because Jesus first served them. Jesus made our cause His own, sharing our existence in servitude and sharing with us His own life of love.
