ScoutingPresbyterian Church of the Way is the charter organization for two scouting groups: Cub Scout Pack 408 and Boy Scout Troop 408. The Boy Scouts of America (BSA), incorporated on February 8, 1910, and chartered by Congress in 1916, is an educational program for boys and young adults to build character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness. The three membership divisions are: Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, and Venturing. The Scout Law is: "A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent." Cub Scout Pack 408The Pack is open to boys in elementary school, and boys may join at any time starting in the spring of their kindergarten year. It consists of approximately 50 families, primarily from Arden Hills and Shoreview. They meet monthly as a Pack, and roughly three times per month in smaller age-specific groups, or Dens, during the school year, and less frequently during the summer months. Cub Scouting means "doing." Everything in Cub Scouts is designed to have the boys doing activites. Activities are used to encourage citizenship training, character development, and personal fitness. They include crafts, science, and nature projects, along with community service projects, entertainment, frequent outings, and camping for older boys. Please visit Pack 408 for additional information or to get involved. Boy Scout Troop 408The Troop is open to boys in middle school and high school. Boys may join at any time starting in the spring of their 5th grade. It consists of approximately 50 families, primarily from Arden Hills and Shoreview. They meet twice monthly as a Troop, with occasional monthly meetings in smaller groups during the school year, and less frequently during the summer months. Boy Scouting focuses on boys learning skills around organizing and leading. Activities are used to encourage citizenship training, character development, and personal fitness. They include skills development and community service. Camping is a year-round activity, with at least one camping outing each month. Ask most boys what they like most about being a boy scout, and their first three answers are camping, camping, and camping! Please visit Troop 408 for additional information or to get involved. |
