Health issues remain one of the core concerns of every family, and remain one of our central commitments as Christians at Presbyterian Church of The Way (PCOTW). High attendances are recorded on the occasions when health issue topics are presented in the church. There appears to be a “health information gap”, a gap that the Health Ministry hopes to fill to benefit the congregation and to broaden PCOTW’s appeal to those in search of a new church in the community.
The Health Ministry group brings together volunteers who will give their time and talents to represent and strengthen PCOTW on health issues, including pharmacists, medical doctors, physician's assistants, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, social workers, long-term healthcare specialists, hospital/clinic employees, psychologists, psychiatrists, chaplains and those interested in the health ministry. In general, the Health Ministry group offers health information to church members on health related concerns and focuses on the following areas: - Organizing adult education and speakers on various health topics, including flu shots, blood pressure, diabetes, autism, pediatric wellness, aging with dignity, end of life, grief, managing the needs of members with special needs (e.g., hearing, vision, physical, mental and emotional), crisis counseling, etc.
- Organizing blood drive in conjunction with the American red Cross
- Coordinating health education programs with the Christian education committee.
- Providing resource support upon request by an overwhelmed primary caregiver on how to organize/care for a loved one who is temporarily, chronically, progressively or terminally ill, or has some physical limitations.
- Providing basic health resources/references/updates (e.g., Links, brochures, addresses of health organizations) for distribution to the congregation and publication on the church webpage for the Health Ministry.
- Providing monthly health tips in the newsletter.
The Health Ministry group welcomes new members and suggestions for programs that would serve the needs of PCOTW and the community. Contacts: Collins Ofori-Amanfo 612.868.5221, Chris Martin 651.769.4374 Links
