"Get the word out. Teach all these things. And don't let anyone
put you down because you're young. Teach believers with your life:
by word, by demeanor, by love, by faith, by integrity"

Youth Ministries

Ministries for Youth from 6th through 12thgrade:   During these years, our Youth's Christian understanding and faith take root and grow stronger. Young people are encouraged to build a community together through participation in Christian Education studies, fellowship, and service activities.

Middle School Christian Education, Fellowship & Service

Presbyterian Church of the Way has a number of Christian Education, Fellowship and Service opportunities for youth in the 6th through 8th grades. Among these are Sunday school class, confirmation, Servants Living Aloud the Message (SLAM), and Youth Fellowship.

6th and 7th Grade Sunday School Class

Sundays, 10:00-10:50 a.m., during the school year

This is a two-year study of the Bible and church history that builds a strong Biblical foundation in preparation for the "Confirmation journey," which begins in 8th grade. We use the curriculums, "Survey of the Old and New Testaments," and "So Great a Cloud of Witnesses," published by Presbyterian Church, USA.

Confirmation, 8th Grade

Sundays, 10:00-10:50 a.m., during the school year

Confirmation is a 1 ½ year program that prepares Youth for church membership. The 8th graders have an in-depth study and exploration about faith, life, and the mission of the church, building on Biblical learnings from 6th and 7th grades. Along with the Sunday morning study, the Confirmands are expected to worship regularly, attend fellowship events and retreats, and participate in service projects. Each Confirmand is paired with a Covenant Partner, who is an adult member of the congregation. The Covenant Partners provide encouragement and guidance and are their "partners" during the entire Confirmation journey. The curriculum is based on "Professing Our Faith" published by Presbyterian Church, USA.

SLAM (Servants Living Aloud the Message)

6th through 8th grades, Wednesdays, 6:30-7:30 p.m. during the school year

SLAM is an action-packed evening when all middle school Youth join together for dinner (5:45-6:30 p.m.), followed by fellowship and faith stretchers (6:30-7:30 p.m.). Come for games, mixers, worship, and activities.

Middle School Youth Fellowship

6th through 8th grades, typically on weekends during the school year

The middle school group meets throughout the year for fellowship activities, a Christmas party, a ski trip, and the Clearwater Forest weekend retreat.

Look for the monthly "Youth Calendar" in the "Notes Along the Way" newsletter or the weekly church bulletins for information about upcoming events.

High School Christian Education, Fellowship & Service

Presbyterian Church of the Way has a number of Christian Education, Fellowship and Service opportunities for older youth in the 9th through 12th grades. Among these are Sunday school class, confirmation, Servants Living Aloud the Message (SLAM), Youth Fellowship and the annual Mission Trip.

Senior High Education Hour, 9th - 12th Grade

Sundays, 10:00-10:50 a.m., during the school year

Using multiple curriculums and information about current teen issues, the teachers plan lively discussions centered on faith and challenges that Christian young adults face in today's society. Class curriculum is generated from current events, Akaloo (PCUSA), and Way to Live:: Christian Practices for Teens by Bass and Richter.

Confirmation, 9th Grade

Sundays, 10:00-10:50 a.m., during the school year

This class continues the "Confirmation journey" begun in 8th grade. The 9th graders concentrate on what it means to become a member of the church, and they prepare their personal faith statements. The Youth continue to connect with their Covenant Partners, attend worship services, and participate in faith building retreats. Their Confirmation journey culminates with an evening dinner together with their parents and Covenant Partners, and a meeting with the Elders of the church. The Confirmands then are asked to profess their faith and are confirmed into the church during a worship service in November. The curriculum is based on "Professing Our Faith" published by Presbyterian Church, USA.

PCOTW Youth Mission Trip

Each summer, our high school Youth have the opportunity to participate in a week-long mission trip. These trips have enabled our Youth to travel to different parts of the country while encouraging them to grow in their faith and discover the many faces of God in their service work to others. Please view our most recent Youth Mission Trip.

High School Youth Fellowship

The high school group meets throughout the year for fellowship activities, service projects, and special events. Some of these activities include participation with teens from other Presbyterian churches in our community.
